Lando Norris recorded an impressive victory at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix (GP) to keep his faint hopes of winning the Formula 1 (F1) world championship alive.
The McLaren driver finished the race 20 seconds clear of reigning champion Max Verstappen to claim his third victory of the season.
The sportsbook attached to the leading crypto casino in UK still rates Verstappen as the favorite to win the title for the fourth consecutive year. A 52-point advantage should be enough for Verstappen to retain his crown providing he avoids any issues in the final six races this term.
However, he will be concerned at how easily Norris brushed him aside in Singapore and is unlikely to be taking anything for granted just yet.
Norris leaves Verstappen trailing
Norris beat Verstappen to pole position and had little difficulty hammering home his advantage when the race got underway on Sunday.
The McLaren star opened up a 13-second advantage by lap 18 and the result never looked in danger as he managed proceedings from the front. Norris will be delighted to have avoided any mishaps after starting on pole having lost the lead in similar circumstances on several previous occasions.
The British driver brushed off a couple of minor interactions with the circuit walls to leave Verstappen trailing in his wake and keep the title race alive.
Verstappen should still have enough points in hand to get over the line, but Norris will be eager to keep exerting pressure on the reigning world champion.
Although Norris will need a helping hand to have any chance of overhauling Verstappen, he will be clinging to the mantra of "it's not over until it's over."
Ferrari duo have a roller-coaster ride
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, Jr. overcame qualifying difficulties to claim valuable points for Ferrari, but neither driver will be completely satisfied with their weekend.
Leclerc's qualifying session ended in disaster when his flying lap was deleted for exceeding track limits, which resulted in him starting ninth on the grid.
However, he showed plenty of determination to make up ground once he had a clear track and eventually passed Lewis Hamilton to secure fifth position.
Sainz, Jr. started the race 10th on the grid after a nasty crash in qualifying and was soon on the back foot in the race after a reckless move at the start by Franco Colapinto.
The team's decision to bring Sainz into the pits on lap 12 ultimately paid dividends as he produced several thrilling overtakes to battle his way into the points.
A seventh-place finish was ultimately a decent result for Sainz, but he will undoubtedly be frustrated not to have finished higher given the pace he showed.
Ricciardo looks set to wave goodbye to F1
Daniel Ricciardo admitted that the Singapore GP may have been his last appearance in F1, with his RB team set to make a change before the next race.
He has picked up just 12 points this season and endured another disappointing weekend with Red Bull's second team in Singapore.
Rumors circulated in the build up to the race that Ricciardo could be replaced by Liam Lawson for the rest of the season and the move would make sense.
Ricciardo has not been consistent enough this term and Lawson deserves the opportunity to showcase his talents after waiting patiently for a chance.
The Australian has recorded eight wins and 32 podium finishes in 257 F1 starts, but has looked well off the pace for most of this season.
Lawson made a strong impression during his brief time in F1 last year and the time has come for him to be handed a seat for the rest of the 2024 campaign.
