The New and Improved Bears
The Chicago Bears didn't have many changes come this season, except they
have to play in Champaign, IL where the University of Illinois plays their
college football games. They also got QB Chris Chandler to backup injury-prone
QB Jim Miller. They got a talented OT in Marc Columbo. They also got some
other great draft picks. But here are the problems they will have to face
this year...
1) They have to play somewhere nearly 150 miles from Solider Field
in Chicago. They will be playing in Champaign, Illinois at Memorial Stadium
where the Fighting Illini will play on Saturdays. This will prove truly
detrimental to the team. All NFL players have a set schedule they follow
each gameday when at home. Now this throws the whole team off. If you've
ever been a player in any sport, you know how it feels. The season is essentially
16 away games. And that just plain sucks!
2) They have a QB controversy. They have both injury-prone Jim Miller
and proven QB Chris Chandler. But Dick Jauron and Jerry Angelo both believe
that Jim Miller will be the QB for the season. They have already announced
Miller as starter and pretty much said to Chandler the only way you play
is if there is an injury. I don't believe that should happen. I believe whoever
plays the best out of those two QB's deserves the start. I'm sorry, but anybody
that thinks either one of those QBs is 10 times better is absolutely insane.
3) They also have a tough decision to make at left tackle, with Bernard
Robertson and rookie first-rounder Marc Columbo. The Bears have really high
hopes on Columbo, but he just isn't experienced enough to start this year.
And the second-year Robertson isn't much better then Columbo is now. In the
offseason, they lost Blake Brockermeyer to the Broncos, and he was probably
one of their best offensive tackles they had in a while, but someone always
has to go to free agency in the NFL. Right now, Robertson is No. 1 on the
depth chart and don't be surprised if Columbo passes him soon.
My final prediction for the Chicago Bears is 10-6 with a wildcard berth,
but going out in the first-round. I think their defense can hold them up
for the whole season, but there offense will let them done mostly in the
regular season. Miller can't carry a team to a Super Bowl, and either can
second-year RB Anthony Thomas. Even though Thomas is a great RB, he's nothing
like a Marshall Faulk that can carry a team.
